FAQ

The questions everyone asks.

Plus a few they don't ask but probably should.

About as long as a piece of string, but the UK average is 40–45 hours behind the wheel plus 22 hours of private practice. Some pass quicker, some take their time. Both are absolutely fine. We'll never push you into a test you're not ready for.
If you might want to drive a manual car later (hire cars abroad, older vehicles, vans), learn manual. If you just want to drive your own car as soon as possible, and that car is automatic, go automatic. Automatic is usually a few hours faster to pass.
Yes. Our intensive course is 30 hours over roughly two weeks, with the theory test in the middle and the practical at the end. We're honest: intensive doesn't suit everyone, and we'll tell you in your taster lesson whether we think it'll work for you.
You're in good company. Only 48% of UK learners pass first time. We'll review what happened, give you another couple of lessons to address it, and re-book the test. On the Intensive package, your first re-take is included.
Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. Dimitris covers the Musselburgh test centre area including Newington, Morningside, Portobello, Duddingston, Craigmillar and more. Jonathan covers the Currie test centre area including Livingston, Bathgate, Currie, Colinton, Corstorphine, Gorgie and across West Lothian. We pick you up and drop you home for every lesson. If you're slightly outside those areas, ask anyway as we often can help.
On your first lesson, absolutely. Many parents find it reassuring. After that we generally prefer it's just you and the instructor so you can focus. Parents can join again for mock tests if you want.
Every one. All our instructors hold the green ADI badge from the DVSA. We don't use trainee instructors. If anyone tells you they do for less money, ask why.
Just your provisional licence (the card, not a print-out). If you don't have one yet, apply on GOV.UK before booking as it usually takes a week or two to arrive. We'll sort everything else.
Yes, and we strongly encourage it. Private practice with an adult who has held a full UK licence for at least 3 years is one of the most effective ways to cut your total lesson hours. We'll give you specific things to practise after each session.
It depends when you passed your test. If you passed before January 1997 you can generally tow larger trailers without a separate test. If you passed after that date your licence restricts what you can tow. The DVSA have now abolished the B+E practical test, but training is still strongly recommended and we issue a certificate of completion. Get in touch and we'll work out exactly where you stand.
All B+E trailer training runs from our vocational vehicle operating base in Tarbrax, West Lothian (EH55 8XE). Courses run on demand with no test slots to book around. We've had customers travel from across the UK including London, Manchester, Inverness and Aberdeen.
Yes. We provide tailored fleet training packages for businesses of all sizes, covering all vehicle categories from cars and vans through to lorries, buses and minibuses. We also provide documentary evidence of training and assessment to help you meet your Health and Safety obligations as an employer. Get in touch for a quote.
Yes. Jonathan offers specialist training for full licence holders including confidence sessions, refresher training, motorway training and advanced driving. It's tailored to you specifically, so whether it's one situation or your driving in general, we can help.
You need to pass three DVSA qualifying exams within two years: a theory and hazard perception test (Part 1), a test of driving ability (Part 2), and a test of instructional ability (Part 3). We offer full ADI training using the TCIT integrated course, which covers all three simultaneously. And once you qualify, we guarantee you a franchise position with Bananas.
Honestly? Because when we started in 2007 we wanted a name that wasn't "ABC Driving School" or "Pass Now Driving." A nervous learner is more likely to remember Bananas. And if you can laugh at the name on day one, you can probably get through the first roundabout on day two.
